8 Tips for Moving While Pregnant

Moving

Moving can be a stressful process on its own, but having to move while pregnant can be an overwhelming burden. Whether you’re moving for more space, a fresh start, or any other reason, moving doesn’t have to feel unconquerable. The most important aspect, of course, is to prioritize yourself and the baby. Advice for Moving While Pregnant Here are a few tips to keep in mind while you begin the moving process. 1. Try to Move Before Your Third Trimester The third trimester is hard on the body. Symptoms of the third trimester can be painful and uncomfortable. The increase of fetal activity will cause aches and cramping in your abdominal area and back. Around the third trimester, fatigue and lack of balance are also common. Choosing when to move is entirely up to you, but it would be beneficial to you and your baby to try and move before you reach the third trimester. 2. Consult Your Doctor or Find a Doctor in Your New Area It’s necessary to consult your doctor before beginning moving to ensure you are not risking any complications. The doctor might advise you to take a less active role if you’re potentially at risk for preterm labor or other such complications. If you are moving to a new area and need a new doctor, it’s best to sort out your medical needs before your move. Keep your medical records on hand while moving to ensure your new medical provider will have everything they need to help you. 3. Lift and Bend Safely Speaking to your doctor before the move is also helpful because they can demonstrate how to lift and bend safely. Pregnancy produces increased levels of hormone relaxins that loosen ligaments. The body does this to help with labor, but it also puts your body at more risk. Common injuries during pregnancy include back strain, pubic symphysis dysfunction (SPD), carpal tunnel pain, and sacroiliac joint problems. These pregnancy injuries arise without the strain of a big move, so it’s important to learn ...

Why Self-Storage Is a Top Resource for Starting Your Own Business

Moving

Every year, more than 600,000 new businesses open in the United States. Recently, self-storage has become one of the best resources that business owners can have, especially if they are single-handedly running a small business.Working as the owner of a small business, you often need ways to make your life a little bit easier. If you manage a business of any size, a self-storage organization approach could save you time, energy, and money. What Is Self-Storage? Any rented storage space that allows you to both access your items and store them on your own time is referred to as self-storage. These spaces are typically managed on a monthly basis, depending on your needs and the terms of the agreement. How Can Self-Storage Help My Business? When you think of storage, you might think of organizing and putting away personal items that you wish to keep but currently have no use or space for. Although this is commonly the way that self-storage is used, it is not the only way to leverage it. When it comes to utilizing storage for your business, there are many ways to improve your organization. 1. Store Extra Product or Stock Many businesses order extra stock to gear up for grand openings, holidays, or events where they will show off their products. While keeping your stock in one place is great for immediate access, it is easy to run out of room. If you find yourself in a position where you have more stock than you can reasonably keep on the sales floor or home, give self-storage a try. 2. Organize Holiday Items It can be difficult to put away things like themed signage and decorations that come out once a year. Certain products are sold seasonally, and many small business owners struggle to find room for year-round products. Organizing and labeling holiday items in a self-storage unit is a great way to make the holiday roll out that more efficient. 3. Small Business Headquarters One of the most popular trends among small business owners is ...

3 Ways to Keep Your Kids Busy on Moving Day

Moving

Moving day is often stressful, but it can be even more overwhelming when children are in the mix. There are so many tasks for you to complete, and if your kids are young, they likely won’t be able to help. Here are some ways to keep your kids busy on moving day. If you’re looking to further simplify your move, self-storage is available at multiple Treasure Island Storage locations. Hire a Babysitter for Moving Day Chances are high that, on moving day, you’ll be unloading items from the moving truck and setting them in their spaces all day. Transporting loads of boxes and furniture will be physically draining and can be dangerous when spaces aren’t cleared, so it will be helpful to have children and pets gone. A babysitter can take your kids to a favorite park or a friend’s house so you can move with ease. Designate a “Kids Only” Room If the weather isn’t ideal for outdoor playtime, and you can’t find a babysitter, designate a safe room for your children to play in for the day. Before the move, take your kids to the store and have them pick out a new board game, puzzle, or book. This will keep them entertained and busy for hours. Portable DVD players are also a great way to keep kids occupied. You can even set up a pillow and blanket fort for your kids to play their games. Whatever you do, just make sure you inform the movers that the room is off-limits. Two Parents Can Take Turns In most cases, both parents won’t have to be present throughout the move the entire time. Whenever one parent needs to catch a break, they can play with their children or take them for a walk around the new neighborhood. Contact the Storage Experts at Treasure Island Storage When you’re preparing for a move, consider renting a storage unit at Treasure Island Storage. You can secure your belongings while you’re selling your home and keep fragile and valuable items safe during ...

How to Easily Pack Dishes for Moving & Storing

Moving

When preparing for a move, the kitchen is often the most dreaded area to pack up. This is because kitchens have the most breakable items in the house. From plates to glasses and coffee mugs to wine glasses, it seems at least something will get broken during the move. The good news is that packing dishes for a move or storage is relatively easy. Here’s what you need to know for packing dishes safely. What Materials Do I Need to Pack Dishes? The key to success when packing dishes is packing paper. You’re going to need a lot of it. You’ll also need dish boxes, packing tape, and labels or markers. If you can’t find enough packing paper, bubble wrap will work just the same. Do your best to avoid using newspapers, though. Ink tends to rub off onto the dishes. There’s a good chance that it’ll wash off, but there’s also a chance that the ink will stain the plate or glass. You may be asking yourself, “What’s a dish box?” Dish boxes are designed to carry dishes and other breakable items, so they’re much stronger than regular cardboard boxes. The extra padding will absorb the shock if an accident occurs in transit. How to Pack Kitchen Items for a Move Your plates need to be packed differently than your cups. Packing everything the same way could result in items breaking.Regardless of what’s inside the box, you’ll always want to tape the bottom multiple times. Once your box is made, line the bottom with a few packing paper sheets, usually about six inches’ worth. Wrap up dishes according to their specific needs (more on that below) and place it inside the box. After your box is full, crumble up more packing paper and fill in the extra space. You don’t want any extra room for items to move around.Beyond buying enough packing paper, here are a few other tips when packing up your kitchen: Stack dishes vertically Label every box “fragile” and “this way up” Don’t overpack ...
